After much deliberation the MacRide Events Team has decided not to run the MacRide Tour in 2017 - we've had a great run over the past seven Tours and those rides have contributed a significant proportion of the close to £800,000 (including £36,000 to the Stratford Hospital Appeal in 2015/6) that MacRide Events has raised since that first 25 and 50 mile MacRide 2005. We made the decision in 2015 to take a break from the April & September mass events in 2016 and just run the Tour - and then to take view on whether we continued.
Lots of reasons for the decision - the time and amount of work in the organisation from planning a pleasant and safe route, risk assessments and H&S stuff, riding the route to identify the tricky bits to mark in the Ride Guide, finding a hotel in the right place on the route with enough twin-bedded rooms at the right price, along with the marketing and administration to get enough riders signed-up to make it work within the tight cost budget through to managing the weekend itself.
We also have a few changes in the Team : Jenni now spends half the year in New Zealand and Aidan has moved away from the area; my excuse is that whilst I'm pretty much recovered from the cancer that hit me in 2014 I'm not getting any younger!
We'd really like to thank everyone that has been involved with the Tours - that's the riders, their sponsors and fundraising contributors, the businesses and organisations and suppliers that have supported us in both cash and kind and the on-the-day volunteers.
Thank you again - it's been great fun and a pleasure to meet so many wonderful people.
